Physical Description

Covered by C.E. & J. Green's patent No 2230 of 1862. Artillery carbine, converted to capping breech-loader.
The lock and cock are of standard P/53 design, but the plate has had a small rounded extension added to its tail, through which the rear lockscrew passes. The normal double border line engraving is present, but there are no markings. With the exception of a solid round boss where the rear lockscrew would normally screw into the plate, the internal construction of the lock is altered only by having the upper part of the bridle very slightly ground away to allow a thin layer of wood between it and the side of the receiver. Engraved on top of the reciever plate, in two lines, GREEN BROS PATENT. The stock and furniture are standard pattern. Right butt has remains of Belgian contract stamp. The full-round blued barrel bears Belgian proof marks and Liege inspection stamps on the left breech and British inspection stamps on the nocksform. Standard Enfield Pattern 1861 Artillery sights, the backsight is graduated to 600 yards. Normal double border line engraved on the plate tail.
