Notes

Westley Richards' Patent No.633 of March 25th 1858 refers.

In late 1863 2,000 Westley Richards' breech loading rifle muskets were ordered for wide-scale Army trials, but due to variations from accepted patterns, trials with various sizes of chambers and ammunition etc., the order was postponed in May, 1864, and not until February 3rd 1865 was rifle number B12 approved to govern the pattern order. The sealed pattern was not sealed until September 22nd. This rifle will be one of those built by Westley Richards during the long interval when administrative details were being settled and is one of 2,000 ordered.
