Physical Description

Barrel octagonal at the breech where it is stamped with government and maker's marks. A barrel-forger's mark is stamped twice on the underside and is repeated at the muzzle. Lock with rounded lockplate engraved with the cypher of William and Mary. Steel mounts, the butt which has a rounded end having no butt-plate. The runner-bar is secured at the rear by the centre lock-screw and front to a barrel-band. There is a narrow band towards the muzzle and a single ramrod pipe ornamented with mouldings. Frizzen-spring, top jaw and jaw screw missing as is also the ramrod.
