Physical Description

The head consists of an axe-blade stamped with a mark three times on each face, socket with short langets and, at the rear, a stout square section spike. The socket is engraved on one side with the date 1675 and on the other with with the crowned monogram C5 of King Christian V of Denmark. Wooden haft with turned moulding below the langets and at the end.

Notes

A letter of 1958 on the the inventory file from J. Paulsen, Director of the Tojhusmuseet in Copenhagen, confirms that this is an axe of the Danish navy. It also records that there are two similar examples in the Tojhusmuseet.
