Physical Description

Flat octagonal iron pommel with concave bevelled rim edged with brass. Slightly arched quillons ending in flat leaf-shaped finials. From the shoulder of each finial spring four spiral scrolling bars, one at each quarter. From the blade side of each quillon, just outward of the rings, springs a similar spiral scrolling bar. The quillons are decorated with single, double and treble engraved transverse lines. The otherwise plain rings are similarly decorated. From the inside of the centre of each ring springs a short double cusp or fluke.


Flamboyant blade tapering from the ricasso to the rounded tip. Each side of the ricasso has a central fuller with a flat on either side decorated with a single line border and a central, longitudinal scrolling line

Stamped twice on each side of the ricasso is a small mark, perhaps in the form of a hand
