Physical Description

The open 44 mm (1 3/4 in) socket has a plain collar, forming a projecting ridge over the L-shaped socket. A locking band with a screw adjustment passes around the mid-point of the socket. The cruciform blade is circular-section with U-shaped ends to its 4 fullers, and tapers to a screw-driver tipped point. With Russian shashka IX.2213.

Watts & White 'The Bayonet Book' (1975) illustrates such a bayonet (no.947), one which is normally associated with the first magazine rifle, adopted by Russia (the Mosin Nagant rifle M1891). The bayonet was intended to be permanently fixed to the rifle and so no scabbards were issued.
