Physical Description

Hilt. Horn grip of oval section with oval ferrule and brass pommel set in to root of antler. Pommel consists of human or leonine face. Brass quillons. The rear quillon, in the shape of the head of a dog-like beast, is curved towards the blade at a slight angle. The front quillon is broken but the angle of the stem suggests it would have curved towards the hilt (CHK).


Straight blade, single-edged for most of its lenght. There are three fullers, on running the length of the shoulder only, the middle running the length of the blade and the third running to the point where the back of the blade extends to a false edge. The front edge is heavily nicked in five places.

Inscriptions and Marks

The Museum of Artillery (MA) number is stamped on the outside [of the blade? - CHK] and there are two different marks on each face, at present too dirty to read (CHK).
