Physical Description

Hilt: cast brass with integral knuckle guard, grip and short rear quillon. The grip is cast with transverse ribs and a simulated backpiece.


Blade: short, curved single edged with hatchet point. the back is engraved

scabbard : black leather tooled with two parallel lines on front and back edges. It is fitted with a brass locket having a staple for a frog securing strap and a brass shoe terminating at its point in a small button.

Inscriptions and Marks

various marks on the knuckle guard along with the number '97'. Two marks on the ricasso of the blade and the scabbard locket stamped with a mark and the number '511'. The chape is stamped 'JM'.
