Physical Description

Hilt: originally black but now bright, consisting of spherical pommel with small tang button and a stem; half basket guard of narrow bars with a side ring and a short rear quillon terminating in mushroomed finial.
Blade: flat hexagonal section, etched/engraved at the forte with foliage and banners, one of which bears the Royal Arms of France, the other the monogram 'LL'(Louis) and the inscription on one face:
'GARDES DU ROY'
And on the other:
'MANUFACTURE ROYALE D'ALSACE'.
