Physical Description

The steel hilt, of so-called 'swept-hilt' form, consists of urn-shaped pommel (Norman type: 32)withpronounced tang button, knuckle-bow and rear quillon with flat, disc terminals, pas d'ane [now called arms of the hilt] and side rings, together with the original wire-bound grip.

The straight blade is of thick rectangular cross-section and tapers evenly to the point which is fitted with a pointed, pyramidal button. The stout ricasso is stamped with a makers mark (a small ship within a rectangle).
