Physical Description

The steel hilt, of 'swept-hilt' form, consisting of an urn-shaped pommel (Norman 31) with pronounced tang button, knuckle- bow which branches near its centre to form two counter- guards, an ecusson, straight quillons swelling slightly towards their terminals, 'pas d'ane' (now called arms of the hilt), loops and two side rings. All the bars are of round-section. All the surfaces of the hilt are engraved with foliate scroll-work. The shortened, old, wooden grip bound with steel wire.

The long, tapering, blade is of flattened hexagonal cross-section, with a long ricasso and a fuller on each face, at the forte.
