XIX.239

Transferred in 1963 from the Royal United Sevice Museum in whose Catalogue (1932) it was No.2684 and described as being made of iron.

Physical Description

The gun copies the early European type which has an open breech with a removable chamber held in position by a horizontal wedge and is similar to Nos.XIX.90 and 113. It is slender and apart from the usual mouldings, quite plain except for a small ornament in relief resembling a four-petalled flower on the second reinforce and decorative cresting on the upper edges of the breech. This last has the usual slots for the wedge and for freeing the chamber; on the right side at the rear is a small loop for attaching the wedge keeper-chain. An iron pivot is fitted to the trunnions
