Physical Description

Skull embossed with eight ridges radiating from the apex. Pointed peak, pierced for a nasal guard which is missing. Laminated neck guard, the lowest plate ornamented with a rosettes of round headed rivets. Large cheekpieces with kite shaped embossings in the centre pierced with hearing holes. Blackened surface.

The peak is stamped with the crowned IR of James II.

Notes

The presence of an English government stamp of the period 1685 on an earlier helmet of continental type shows that this stamp merely denotes governmetn property and was not necessarily placed on the helmet at the time of it's manufacture.
