Physical Description

Bar locks with rounded cocks. Very crude cheap scroll engraving on locks and action body, gun number 109535 engraved on rear finial of guard. Rebounding locks.
Fitted with Greener-type 'treble wedge-fast' action with cross-bolt through standing breech. Standard top lever mechanism. Chequered fore-end and pistol grip, cheekrest on left side of butt. Butt has been lengthened and black horn buttplate fitted. Front trigger set.
The rib is matted full length, and engraved in a panel, G. SCHAFER, HOFBUCHSENMACHER, TUBINGEN. The underside of the barrels is stamped with 108,49 for the rifle, 16 for the shotgun, numbered 49854, while the table of the action is numbered 82847 and 49854, and has Belgian in addition to Imperial German proofmarks. The sights consist of a dovetailed wide bead foresight and a block with one hinged leaf, having a semi-circle for a notch
