Physical Description

A plain bowl-shaped skull-cap closely resembles IV.285-291. There are no visible means of attaching a lining which is fitted must have been fixed with adhesive. It was kept in position by the sweat-band of the cap.

This cap-lining or Calotte was designed in 1915 by General Adrian of the French Army and was the immediate predecessor of the shrapnel helmet. See no. IV.321.
