Provenance

Captured in Java in 1811 (1859 Inventory, No.XIX.94). (See note to No.9 H.L.Blackmore). The Kingdom of Palembang formed the greater part of the southern half of the Island of Sumatra.

Physical Description

The piece is of European design, with dolphins of large size. The trunnions are placed markedly below the centre line. The first reinforce bears in relief a large cartouche with scrolled frame enclosing the inscription in Arabic: 'Sultan Ranafa Achnmet Najm ed-Deen of the country of Palembang the Abode of Peace, 1183 (A.D. 1769).' The cascabel is incised with the weight in the English manner, 73-1-11, probably added after the capture of the gun
