Date

about 1805

Object Number

XII.3507

Provenance

Physical Description

Swan-neck cock of the 1793-1810 design, but its noteworthy becuase of its virtually mint condition both as regards to metal and wood. The finishing of all parts is clearly visible, and the lock condition (particularly the face of the steel) suggests that it has probably seldom if ever been fired. The sideplate flat bears stamps including a star (not asterisks as on most), T.A (which is repeated in smaller letters on the underside) under a large Crown, and the number 444. The right side of the butt bears the Storekeeper's stamp of a Crowned addorsed Royal Cypher.
