Transferred from the Rotunda Museum of Artillery, Woolwich, 1927. From Rhodes, acquired by Sir J Lefroy 1867.

Physical Description

Shaped to the shin and ankles, and extending over the ankle to the sole at either side. The upper edge is slightly flared, and pierced with holes for the turning-pin and stud; near the centre is a horizontal pair of holes. A very slight medial ridge extends to the high, arched ankle-opening, which is flared at the front. The rear edges are straight. The outer edge is fitted at the bottom with part of a lobed hinge, and there is a rivet hole for the attachment of another towards the top. The inner edge has, in corresponding positions, two brass-capped rivets for the attachment of a sabaton, and at the right of the ankle opening is a pair of rivet holes of indeterminate function, with one matching hole at the left.


The upper edge is corroded, and there are three holes in the outer face.
