Purchased from the Beriah Botfield collection at Norton Hall, Northamptonshire, with the aid of the National Art Collections Fund in 1942 (Norton Hall no. 219)

Physical Description

The black painted guard is formed of a plain oval shell in one with an ovoid knuckle-guard. The rear edged of the shell has a plain curved quillon directed away from the hand. The knuckle-guard terminates over the pommel in a flat cap with a rectangular slot along the narrowed end piece curved to join the top of the grip.

The grip is ribbed and shaped to the hand. Painted black.

The straight blade is single edged and flat/has plain faces and a spear point.
