Provenance

Gifted by the family of Mr John Derek Hoy, who wished the sword to be given to the Armouries upon his death.

Physical Description

The hilt of the sword comprises a grip made of the antler of a stag. The flattened mushroom-cap pommel bears a prominent tang button. A pierced and chiselled shell guard and knuckle screwed to the pommel. The steel blade is single-edged and curved bearing a saw-back edge and three fullers. Traces of various inscriptions and the possible date of 1652 are still visible upon the blade.
