Provenance

Lent by the University of Portsmouth, 2012. Presented to Professor John Craven, Vice Chancellor of the University of Portsmouth, (as a representative of the university) by the Omani Student Society. The presentation was made at an event to celebrate Omani National Day, in November between 2003 and 2005. The sword had been used by students in previous years as part of a dance, but this was stopped on health and safety grounds. The sword was gifted to the Royal Armouries on 7th March 2017.

Physical Description

Blade straight and double-edged with three fullers at the forte, with three marks which may be approximations of the 'passau wolf' mark in imitation of European blades; guardless hilt covered in silver sheet with embossed and stippled decoration taking the form of floral spirals.
