Physical Description

The blade is of the usual shape with a rather attenuated point and the usual asymmetrical fullers. The front face is decorated with floral gold overlay at the hilt, centrally and at the point. The hilt is of dark horn scales, the edges of the tang being silvered and slightly recessed. There have been three large prominent rivet heads on the outer face, the central one now missing. These heads are cylindrical and covered in sheet silver. They have been inserted through silver Russian coins, the upper one having a small hole near the edge showing that it was once used as a pendant. On the rear face the rivets have been hammered over smaller silver coins, all with laural leaf borders, one of which bears a lion holding a shamshir.

Dimensions: The length of the blade being 587mm, the overall length of the dagger being 746mm. Weight: The weight of the dagger is 0.7kg.
