Purchased at auction, Sotheby's, 9 June 1950 lot 103. From the collections of the Earl of Londesborough, E J Brett and Lord Swaything.

Physical Description

The gauntlets have pointed, bell-shaped cuffs, wrist plates, four metacarpal plates and knuckle plates shaped to the base of the fingers. All the finger scales are preserved together with the origingl gloves of soft leather. Decoration. The upper edges of all the articulated lames are cusped to from three low points. The surface is blued with gilt bands edging all the plates with the addition of three broader vertical bancds on the cuirass and culet and single bands running down the outside of the armpieces and the centre of the tassets. The stell rivets used throughout have gilt heads. All the straps are original and are faced with red velvet.
