Purchased 22 June 2004 from Andrew Lumley. From the collection of Prof Paul Post (1882-1956), curator of the Berlin Zeughaus, formed in Berlin after World War I. (information from A.Lumley).

Physical Description

Of iron, with broad flat sides curved under the wearer's ankle and rising to a slight crest at the rera, where there is a very short round section neck dividing after widening through a filed moulding to a rowel box holding a medium sized six pointed star rowel. At the end of the left side is a loop trerminal retaining a fragment of the original buckle, and at the end of the right side is a flattened terminal pierced with w vertical slot for the single leather. The surface is patinated dark brown, and there is a hint of file hatched ground on the sides suggesting it might have been tinned or otherwise plated.
