Object Number



First registered 29 June 2004 following return from loan to the Australian War Memorial [museum] (reg. no. 962), being the remains of one of the Loans to the Dominions, sent out in 1921.

Physical Description

The skull is made in two pieces joined in a low comb. The peak is broad and droops, and is pivoted to the skull by extensions at either side. The main edges have plain inward turns, bordered at the front of the skull by 14 round headed lining rivets with square wasgers retaining fragments of original lining band and cheekpiece leathers for the misisng cheekpieces. The peak has three rivet holes for the missing faceguard. The exterior is covered in thick black paint.

Stamped on the peak ?SS (obscured by paint) for the maker. Painted inside with /.962 for the AWM.
