Provenance

First registered 29 June 2004 following return from loan to the Australian War Memorial [museum] (reg. no. OL00378.018), being the remains of one of the Loans to the Dominions, sent out in 1921.

Physical Description

It has a two piece skull joined in a low comb and riveted on the narrow, even brim. The main edge has a plain inward turn with a recessed border containing 18 original round headed lining rivets with large square washers, out of an original 20. At the base of the skull are 2 rivets at either side retaining fragments of the cheekpiece leathers, and two incised lines. At the rear, attached by two rivets, is a plume holder. The exterior is painted black. At the front of the brim are several small suspension holes, another at the mid right and one large suspension hole at the rear, where the edge is considerably dented.
