First registered 29 June 2004 following return from loan to the Australian War Memorial [museum] (reg. no. 8287), being the remains of one of the Loans to the Dominions, sent out in 1921.

Physical Description

It has a two piece skull joined in a low comb and riveted on the narrow, even brim. The main edge has a plain inward turn bordered by 16 original round headed lining rivets with large square washers. Sections of the broad canvas lining band survive at either side. Around the base of the skull are 12 rivets, 2 at either side retaining fragments of the cheekpiece leathers, the remainder decorative. At the rear attached by two rivets is a plume holder. The exterior is painted black. At the rear of the brim is a large missing segment leaving only the wire over which the edge was turned. At the front are a pair of small suspension holes near the skull and another at the edge, and there is another small suspension hole at the mid right. Both sides of the brim and skull are dented.
