Provenance

First registered 24 June 2004 following return from loan to the Australian War Memorial [museum] (reg. no. 5565.002), being the remains of one of the Loans to the Dominions, sent out in 1921. Possibly from Malta in 1826.

Physical Description

It is formed of two plates joined by two hinges with slightly cusped hasps at the top, and has a rivet hole and a larger hole for the missing pin catch at the bottom. The main edges have roped inward turns with recessed borders. The upper edge is angled, and has a flush rivet a rivet hole at the outside and and two rivet holes at the inside for the leathers from the couter. The exterior is painted black.
