Provenance

Purchased 5 February 2004. Renovations were carried out in the Wakefield Tower from 1867-1869/70, to accommodate the new display of the Crown Jewels. The timber concerned may well have been extracted in these years.

Physical Description

A small wooden model of the block used for the execution of Lord Lovat in 1747. (See XV.3). In two parts, hinged at the back. A small metal plaque fixed to the front reads: 'MODEL OF BLOCK. MADE OUT OF BEAM FROM THE WAKEFIELD TOWER. BUILT IN 1086. UPON WHICH LORD LOVAT &c. WERE BEHEADED.
