Physical Description

The blade is curved, single edged and tapering to an elongated point in the manner of a shamshir. The cross is of cast brass with elongated arms ending in concave collars and elongated knops. Grips are of horn with a reeded strip of brass covering the tang. The shape of the grip is that of a Turkish sword with a pistol-grip pommel with an eyelet.

Dimensions: The length of the blade is 795 mm, the overall length being 934 mm. Weight: The weight of the sword is 0.715 kg.

Inscriptions and Marks

It bears a lozenge shaped brass tag numbered 15 / 651 and a paper label that reads: Scimiter of Persian type, Tunis. Purch from the Exhibition of 1851. Lent from the Tower Armoury, 1915 [651]
