Physical Description

It is of wood covered with gesso and painted on the outside, and lined with leather inside. It is rectangular with slightly gibbous sides and a flattened central ridge widening slightly to the bottom. It is painted with the figure of a spearman surrounded with foliage on a red ground, bordered by a band of foliage in red and grey. Inside the wood grip bound with leather survives, and there is evidence of the former presence of a bar at the top.
