Physical Description

It is of pointed oval form with a sharp central ridge. It is of wood covered with gesso and painted, and lined inside with leather. The decoration comprises a heart pierced by a crossbow bolt and surmounted by feathers, in black outline on a dark red ground, overpainted by a shield bearing a bunch of grapes on a red ground. The central panel is bordered by a band of flowers in white on a green ground. Inside are two central iron bars for the missing grip, and a staple and hook for a carrying strap.
