Physical Description

This sukashi tsuba is of irregular shape, the outline being defined by the design which is fully carved in the round, maru bori. The hitsu are formed as part of the design and the seppa dai is defined by sinking the carving below its level. On the rear are two punched marks to fit the nakago hitsu to a blade. The design consists of two aubergines, nasu, with leaves at stalks, arranged so that the stalks run nticlockwise when seen from the front and join to the other vegetable. The ends of the vegetable have at some time been defined with gold overlay, nunome zogan.

Dimensions: The thickness of the tsuba is 3.5mm, the height is 65mm, the width is 62mm. Weight: The weight of the tsuba is 0.09kg.
