Purchased from Hermann Historica OHG on 10 May 2013, lot 2785. Part of a private collection in Stuttgart which has been consigned en masse to Hermann Historica by the owner's widow.

Physical Description

Ornamentally chiselled dagger with etched decoration on the reverse side of the blade. Riveted ivory grips with engraved silver mounts for the grip and blade. Insterted into the pommel tweezers with ivory finial and set with rhinestones. Silver scabbard finely chased in reliefd with flowers, a town, a lion wrestling a serpent at either side, and trophies, the chape with a monster head relief. Attached chain with two Ottoman coins (kurush) of Abdulhamid accession 1293 AH (1876) year 20 (1895), Konstantiniye mint. The ends of the grip plates with small addition on either side.
