Physical Description

D.B. Dumonthier patent by Dumonthier & Chartron, Paris.
Hilt has down-turned brass pommel scales, cast and chased on each side with a trophy of arms on a punched ground; right side has a screw missing. A pair of slender, double quillons widen at the tips to form a diamond shape. On the upper side the quillons also form the hammers. The grips are of diagonally-fluted ivory, secured by two screws on either side.
The double-edged blade tapers gently to a point and has a long, central fuller on each side; it has etched decoration comprising foliage scrolls. The upper, right side of the blade is marked: BTS (?) D'TON & PERFT/DUMONTHIER & CHARTRON/194 R. ST MARTIN/PARIS. The plain barrels (one either side of the blade) are approximately one third of the length of the blade. The folding triggers are concealed on the underside of the grip.

Scabbard of leather with central stitched seam and white metal mounts.
General condition on acquisition: generally good. Ivory grips cracked on both sides. Some traces of polish on pommel. Scabbard leather split along seam
