Physical Description

The defence is made of two plates, slightly tulip-shaped, joined by two iron hinges at the outside and fastened by a sprung stud at the inside. The main edges have roped inward turns with recessed borders. At the upper edge of the outer plate are two flat-headed flush studs for the leathers from the couter. Beside the rearmost of these is an addaitional small rivet hole, and there is another in the border nearby. At the cuff of the inner plate is a large hole, probably for wiring a gauntlet for display. The surface is bright with some patination.
