Tower arsenal. Found in store at the Tower without a number in 1999 audit.

Physical Description

Formed of a front and rear plate, joined by a modern rivet at the left shoulder and fastened by a stud and keyhole slot at the right. The main edges have plain inward turns, bordered by a row of brass lining rivets with round washers. Modern rivets fill holes at either side where pauldron straps have been fitted, probably for later display. Each plate is decorated with radial bands formed of three sets of incised lines, possibly originally gilt. The exterior is black from the hammer. There are cracks at the left rear and centre of the neck, and at the front point.
