Physical Description

Circular silver medal with pronounced rim on both faces, suspended by fixed loop and plain silver ribbon bar. The obverse is engraved in the centre with a target boss flanked by two stags and topped by two groups of three arrows. Above these is engraved TOTTENHAM ARCHERS, and beneath, in a ribbon, is the motto ACUTA ET CERTA,(ie; 'sharp and sure'). Beneath the motto are London silver marks, including the date letter 'k' for 1825-6, and the maker's stamp W.E in a rectangular border, perhaps for William Elliott, whose stamp on a pickle fork of 1813 is given in Jackson's Silver & Gold Marks of England, Scotland & Ireland, ed.Ian Pickford, pub.Antique Collectors Club, Suffolk, 1991. The reverse is engraved ANNUAL MEDAL/CONTESTED/25th August/1825.
