Provenance

Purchased at auction, Christie's 24 April 2001 lot 66, from the R T Gwynn collection. Probably from Rhodes, then via Bachereau to the collection of Luigi Marzoli, Brescia, sold Christie's Geneva 26 April 1977 lot 54 (SFr 3,000 to Gwynn).

Physical Description

This comprises a main plate with a pronounced medial keel and a large, oval wing with a medial pucker and a broad recessed border. The three plates below survive, the lower one deep with a cusped lower edge drawn down to a blunt medial point. The lower plate is pierced for attachment to a greave, and the main plate has rivet holes for the strap and buckle encircling the knee.
