Physical Description

With a low neck, medial keel terminating in a blunt point above the waist where there is a narrow flange with a central point. At either side of the chest is a mushroom-headed stud for the shoulder strap. The main edges are bound in brass, and bordered by 29 out of 30 conical-headed lining rivets with large circular washers retain fragments of the leather lining band at the left side. At either side of the waist is a flat-headed rivet designed not to interfere with the waist belt. The exterior is mottled and stained. The washers are replaced with angled suspension brackets at either side of the neck and at the centre of the flange, and are missing on rivets 2, 7 and 9 from the left of the flange. The centre of the keel is damaged with numerous cuts, two of which are very deep and extend across the breastplate. Stamped No 1, crown over 8, inside crown over broad arrow.
