Physical Description

It is formed of a single plate of thick iron, transversely curved to the body. It has a deep, narrow cut-out at the neck, and a shallower, wider one for each of the arms. At each shoulder (somewhat higher and closer to the neck on the left side than the right), is riveted amushroom-shaped stud to engage a shoulder-strap. At either side of the waist is riveted (and soldered?) a flat, downward-projecting hook to retain a waist strap. The end of the right hook is broken off. The breastplate is struck just to the right of the neck with a bullet proof mark. Bright with rough from the hammer surface.
