Physical Description

A very good copy of an 18th century plug bayonet. It comprises a broad steel blade with a full length true edge and short false edge. The barbell crosspiece is of brass, as is the pommel which has a brass finial which is on this example, purely decorative. The grip is of turned, light close grained wood, tapering down towards the pommel.

The register records that this bayonet was purchased from Mr R Lee and XXI.88 from Mr Tenniswood but there are reasons for thinking that the vendors names may have been transposed - see note of 26/06/02 by PJL on inventory file.
