Physical Description

The testor is a recent addition to this bed, although it is mostly of a contemporary age to it. The headboard consists of two arcaded panels with inset parquetry work. Arcaded rails frame the top and bottom, while suported by stylised acanthus-leaf. The foot-posts are square columns, the sides decorated with applied mouldings, some of recent origin. The upper parts of the columns have melon-turnings and strapwork carving. The original bed stretchers, with holes for the rope mattress support and turned bedstaffs, survive in order to support a modern box-frame mattress. The hangings are new.
