Provenance

Old Tower collection; probably Tower arsenal. First accessioned when found un-numbered in Brick Tower, 2 November 1992 (first listed there in 1982/83).

Physical Description

Slightly curved, single-edged with narrow fuller near the back. The shortened tang is drilled twice (probably for display mounting) and is bent slightly towards the outside of the blade. The extreme tip of the blade is burred over.

Inscriptions and Marks

On outside of blade, near base: (engraved, rather crudely) 'S. R. Northd. L. M.'; (stamped) crown over 1 (struck upside down over the dot between 'North' and 'd' of former inscription).On spine of blade: (stamped) '[OS]BORN [& G]UN[BY]' (poorly struck).On tang, on inside, engraved: three transverse lines.
