Tower arsenal, accessioned from Lanthorn Tower, Room 3, 1989. From a cuirass captured from the French at the siege of La Rochelle in 1627 under Marshal Toiras.

Physical Description

It is comprises only one scale of rectangular form and terminal plate pierced with a keyhole slot, both attached by four rivets with square internal washers to a buff leather strap. The terminal plate is stepped to accommodate the base of a leather strap and narrows down to a rough point at which there is a rivet for the attachment of a prehensible leather tab by means of which the keyhole slot was fitted over a stud on the breastplate. One or more scales are missing from its upper edge, including that for the attachment to the backplate.
