Physical Description

The upper part, of irregular rectangular form, is stepped to accommodate the base of the buff leather strap, which was originally retained by four rivets of which the upper pair only retain a replacement strap. The lower part has a keyhole slot and tapers to a rough point at which there is a rivet retaining, on the inside, fragments of a prehensible leather tab by means of which the keyhole slot was fitted over a stud on the breastplate. Each of the edges is bordered by a double incised line decoration. Three or more scales are missing from its upper edge, including that for the attachment to the backplate.
