Provenance

Old Tower collection, probably Tower arsenal. First accessioned when found in store March/April 1982 (probably in Brick Tower; by 1987 in rack 3H).

Physical Description

Blade converted to spear point. Fuller extends for 686 mm (27 in) from the hilt.


Variations, losses, damage, etc: inside edge of the guard ground down both langets removed. CHECK OVER.

Inscriptions and Marks

On blade, on outside, near hilt (CHECK), stamped: crown over 4. (CHECK 4 - not in IBE)On blade, on back, near hilt (CHECK), stamped: HADLEY; 8. On scabbard, on IN/OUTside, near mouth (CHECK), stamped: E over Z(?)3 (sketch in VTR). (CHECK Z - IBE has 7?)
