Physical Description

The head is essentially a quadrangular spike, filed so as to produce a series of trapezoidal sections diminishing in size towards the tip, which finishes as a series of ball shaped mouldings. Below the spike is a multifacetted moulding, an octagonal section, another moulding and then the long tapering tang. The head is fitted onto a round shaft of stained wood with a plain brass collar at the base.

The head is almost exactly the shape and form of an engineer's broach, used for forming a round hole into a square one.
