Physical Description

Comprises a head having a narrow blade of flattened lozenge sectionthat broadens out with a step at the base then narrows back to a multifaceted moulding and the long tapering socket. Over the blade fits a hollow fish, cast in brass, with horns and a down-turned tail, holding an almost semicircular axe head in its mouth. The fish and axe, are shaped so as to give the weapon the profile of an halberd. The blade is fitted to a round wooden shaft.

Dimensions: length: overall 2500 mm (98.5 in), Head length: 840 mm (33 in), The length: of the central blade is 400 mm, the width of the weapon being 290 mm. Weight: The weight of the spear is 4.2 kg.
