Physical Description

Made of an alloy and silver plated. The shield has in relief four crests; two with the arms of England (three lions passant) and two with the arms of Scotland (lion rampant). A medallion profile of Queen Victoria is suspended from a ribbon inscribed: THE ELCHO CHALLANGE SHIELD 1862. Beneath which is the depiction of two battles: Bannockburn, 1314 and Flodden 1613. At the base of the shield are two figures shaking hands, one dressed in highland dress, the other in Volunteer dress. The whole of the shield is cast with thistles, acorns and roses.
